Cranial cruciate ligament rupture is the most frequent pathology affecting the stifle joint of the adult dog. Regardless of the size of the patient or the severity of the degenerative changes present, surgical correction remains the treatment of choice. Despite the recent development of novel surgical techniques for the treatment of cruciate ruptures, the lateral fabellar-tibial suture remains an effective and "time-proven" technique to deal with such injuries. The technique is relatively straightforward and requires only a minimum of specialized instrumentation making it available to many private practices.

This "one-day" course will include a series of lectures and a laboratory:

  • The morning lectures will focus on the diagnosis and recognition of cranial cruciate ligament ruptures and associated meniscal injuries followed by an overview of the surgical technique, tips and tricks.
  • During the laboratory, participants will work in groups of three under the guidance of board certified surgeons and surgery residents. Each participant will have the opportunity to perform the procedure on a cadaver and to assist in a second surgery.

The laboratory will be followed by a closing session on the post-operative care, complications and to entertain any questions that you may have regarding cruciate surgery.
