In-house cytologic evaluation can generate immediately useful clinical information allowing the veterinarian to make informed diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. Practical, interactive, hands-on sessions will give participants the opportunity to study the cytologic features of common neoplastic and inflammatory lesions. Concepts will be demonstrated using case studies, PowerPoint and high quality digital images. Attendees will also have ample opportunity to examine related samples using double-headed microscopes. The workshop will start with a review of sample collection and preparation. Identification of common cell types and the approach to smear evaluation will follow. The remainder of the time will be spent concentrating on the evaluation of body cavity fluids, identification of common cutaneous and subcutaneous masses, and the cytologic evaluation of lymph nodes. Emphasis will be placed on practical, clinically applicable diagnosis of common lesions. |
